“My name is Herald Watson and I am a first year 4th grade teacher at Curtis School of Excellence. I believe it is important for you to understand what motivates me to teach the underserved students of Chicago. As an urban school student teacher, I bring my experiences as a youth educated in Chicago and have seen the disparities and inability of teachers to provide a relevant, rigorous, and engaging education. Students warrant the right to have an infrastructure that promotes them to be intellectually reflective, caring and ethical people engaged in a meaningful life. Students should be genuinely surrounded by teachers who set high expectations for them.”
