“I moved to Chicago from Texas in the summer of 2009. I got a job as a 2nd/3rd grade bilingual teacher in a district that does not have a huge population of students. The school I work in has about 300 students. My last school had 900 students in grades preK-5th! The bilingual program is just taking off. We do not have a lot of materials in Spanish and all of our ELL students are considered poor. I am just trying to get their basic needs met before I can move on and do wonderful things with them.”
