“As an eighth grade math teacher, I'm always looking for new ways to engage my students. Many of my scholars are well behind grade level in their work, testing as low as on a second grade math level. Traditional methods of instruction have repeatedly failed these students, so I push myself to find new ways to reach them. The most engaging and personal way to reach many of my students is through manipulatives. Manipulatives can range from building blocks and algebra tiles to pipe cleaners that can help them visualize geometric lines. By providing my classroom with such tools, you will make it possible for my students to take one more step towards closing the achievement gap.
In my ward, two out of every twenty children will go to college. Six out of every twenty will be incarcerated. I have twenty students in every classroom and I consider it my responsibility to make college possible for each of them and my hope that they never even visit someone in jail. The answer to ending these statistics is education. Thank you for your help in meeting this goal.”

One of the eighth grade standards requires a student to see a flat piece of paper with an outline on it and determine if it could be folded up into different geometric shapes. This standard is RIDICULOUSLY difficult for students to understand or master because the high level of abstract thinking it requires. This item would make it possible to overcome that roadblock.
