Imagine children growing up in a vacuum with no books, no opportunities, and no hope. In the U.S. an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 community-based programs serve children in need but fully 80% do not have a single book for the children they serve. In addition, over 1.5M Title I classrooms are poorly resourced.
First Book empowers teachers and administrators with access to high-quality books, educational materials and resources so these caring leaders can develop curriculum, build reading activities, and change lives by offering dramatically enriched learning environments.
First Book consolidates disenfranchised groups at the bottom of the economic pyramid with our ground-breaking social enterprise model and releases a rich flow of books and educational resources into these programs, creating permanent, systemic change in access to resources for children in need.
First Book has delivered more than 65 million books to children in need in the US and Canada.
